The establishment of Hangzhou Economy & Technology Developing Area was granted by the State Council as a state developing area in April, 1993. It covers an area of 104.7 square kilometers.
A favorable investment environment is being cultivated in the developing area based on advantages featured Hangzhou, such as advantaged situation, workforce of high quality, pleasant environment, and excellent economy and so on. The built-up area of 34 square kilometers is characterized by top-ranking infrastructure, beautiful surroundings, convenient living facilities and efficient government service. Of all the 49 national developing areas, the general development status of Hangzhou & Technology Developing Area is ranked among the first 15 places. Of all the Export Processing Quarters Economy in the country, the gross amount of exports and imports of the area was placed number 3.
In the first half of the year 2004, the Japan External Trade Organization evaluated the investment environment of the 75 developing areas in China and Hangzhou Economy & Technology Developing Area was graded the best developing area.
