Fuzhou Economic & Technical Development Zone (FETDZ) was established in January, 1985 with the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. It is one of the first state-class economic-technological development areas in the country, located in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province. It is extended to the outlet of Min River and the total area up to 23 square kilometers for industrial development. Also it is the only integration of Export Processing Zone, Free Trade zone, Taiwanese investing zone, and high-tech Park in China. In Aug. 1996, the Ministry of Communication selected the FETDZ-based Fuzhou port as the pilot port designated for direct shipping across the Taiwan Straits.
Over the years, great effort has been made to create a proper international climate for investment in FETDZ. Enormous sums have been put into the infrastructure construction; 10 square kilometers of land has been prepared for the development of modern industrial projects. At present, over 30 countries and regions in the world have their enterprises investing in, some of them are well-known transnational corporations. Now, in FETDZ, an industrial system has been formed, which mainly focuses on electronics, photoelectric machinery and electronic instruments, biochemical pharmacy, machinery, metallurgy, building materials, textile and other light industries. Efforts for development have also been extended to the service field including trade, tourism, transportation and finance and to modern agriculture as well. In one word, FETDZ has been making headway and gaining momentum of development. Meanwhile, the Administrative Committee of FETDZ make great efforts to construct the harmonious environment for human and nature, and pass ISO14001 environment management system authentication. Its unique advantages in culture and geography as well as its perfect environment for investment have attracted a large number of investors to set up their enterprises in the Development Zone, and their success has proved that FETDZ, indeed, is a right choice. Nowadays, FETDZ has become an open area with the most policies for opening, the most concentrated foreign investors and the most potential economical development.
