Until just a few years ago nobody took any notice of Chinese windmill manufacturers, but times have been a-changin' in one of the world's biggest wind energy markets. Today China's two largest wind turbine makers, Sinovel and Goldwind, are counted among the global top 10, and while their combined share of the world market is only a meagre 7.6%, they are very great indeed when it comes to the Middle Kingdom.
In 2007 Goldwind accounted for 23.3% of the Chinese market, with Sinovel taking up second place with 18.8%. Danish Vestas has been reduced to fourth place with a total Chinese market share of 12.8%, whilst another Western wind giant, U.S.-based GE Wind – is falling severely behind with a modest 7.4%.
