In a single year the Danish export of energy technology has declined 30 percent. This is the first time in eight years that the export decline in energy technology surpasses the decline in other goods. Only in China does the export of energy technology continue unaffected by the economic crisis.
New statistics from the Confederation of Danish Industries (DI) shows that the export of energy technology has declined from April and May last year till April and May this year. The decline is 30 percent, while the remaining export only dropped 22 percent.
"The export of energy technology is hit by the recession, mainly because these technologies are part of very capital-intensive investments, which are very sensitive to the financing problems that the economic crisis entail", says CEO Anders Stouge from the Danish Energy Industries Federation - a part of DI.
Anders Stouge adds that several aid packages around the world have not taken effect yet and that countries typically postpone larger energy investments.
Only in China has the energy technology export grown, and by no less than 23 percent – far more than any other export goods. It is mainly the export of energy- and wind mill components that have secured the growth.
"The Chinese have decided that they want to be strong in areas such as energy and energy efficiency, so they allocate funds and carry out the projects even in spite of the crisis", says Anders Stouge.
The export decline in markets of energy technology has hit Great Britain the most, with a drop of more than 40 percent. In Sweden the drop is 35 percent and 30 percent in the USA. Only in Germany have the energy export been reduced less that the other export goods – "only" 16 percent.
