A community of Chinese dwarves has set up its own village to escape discrimination from average-sized people.
Everyone in the mountain commune in Kunming, southern China, must be less than 1.30 meters tall to be allowed to set up residence in the village, and the 120 or so residents run their own police force, as well as a fully functioning fire brigade and other community services.
In order to generate a little more revenue for the somewhat isolated community, the inhabitants have turned the village into a tourist attraction by building houses that look like mushrooms, and living and dressing like fairy tale creatures, when tourists are around.
According to community spokesperson Fu Tien the reason for creating the dwarven village was very simple:
"As small people we are used to being pushed around and exploited by big people. But here there aren't any big people and everything we do is for us."
